The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony nears, you'll find an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games in the world and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
